back pain

prevalence
Low back pain is a very common complaint in the adult age group.
Almost all adults experience at least one episode of low back pain in their lifetime.
Assuming that all adults were examined at the same time in a certain time period; it is seen that one out of every six people apply to primary or secondary health institutions due to low back pain.
spine
The spine, which is the main axis of our body; In addition to keeping us upright, it carries the body load and allows us to make bending movements in all directions.
Each vertebra that makes up the spine is connected to the one below (and above) by disc pads and joints called facet joints.

spine
In addition to the main articular connections, the vertebrae are tightly connected to each other thanks to the peripheral supporting connective and muscle tissue.
While the spine and surrounding tissues carry the weight of the body in harmony, it allows us to stand in an upright position and allows us to make certain movements.
lumbar spine
-
The lumbar spine consists of 5 vertebrae and nucleus pulposus called discs located between them.
-
It has basic mechanical tasks such as carrying the load of our body and transferring it to the hips and legs via the pelvis (pelvis).

lumbar spine
-
The lumbar vertebrae that make up the lumbar part of our spine, the cushions between them, the facet joints that connect them, the ligaments that hold them together, and the muscle tissue that provides such a corset support. its harmoniously working is the essential for a pain-free back.
bac pain
Low back pain can develop mainly due to simple traumas such as lifting weights that force the spine, reverse movements that push the biomechanical limits, or severe traumas such as falls or traffic accidents.
Apart from known or remembered factors, it may be a symptom of diseases affecting the lumbar spine such as herniated disc, lumbar slippage, canal narrowing, rheumatic diseases, tumor, infection.
Low back pain can have different characters; It can start suddenly, have a mild course, and gradually increase in severity. A deep ache may be in the form of stabbing or burning. It may be in a specific area or pointwise, or it may be accompanied by pain radiating to the hip and/or legs on one side or both sides.
The character of the pain may vary according to the patient and diseases.

MR section showing the herniation of the disc cushion between the two vertebrae and extending into the spinal canal
MR sections showing the spinal canal of normal width (top green arrow) and narrowed (bottom red arrow)

X-ray of the two vertebrae that have slipped over each other (back borders of the vertebrae are drawn)
